New VR Headsets!
This month marks the beginning of the headset boom! Major players in the space are releasing or have plans to release headsets at a competitive price without the bulky cords and sensors. In our opinion, this is a game changer. Virtual reality has always been perceived as expensive, cumbersome and only for gamers. That couldn't be further from the truth. We are witnessing a race between hardware developers (e.g. HTC, Oculus, LG, PlayStation, etc...) to one-up each other in refresh speeds, resolution, pixels and Field of Vision, plus how to convince the average consumer to leave the limited real world behind. Finally, as Apple enters the race, how do they plan to continue their legacy of being a disrupter? Check out the article here.
Now let's talk pricing. As we all know, competition breeds higher quality products, but also forces lower prices. As the cost of obtaining a headset continues to fall, it's our belief the number of headsets in homes around the world will grow exponentially over the next few years, although we'll touch on that in a minute. For your enjoyment, here is the latest pricing for headsets on the market:
- Oculus Rift: $399
- Oculus Go: $199
- HTC Vive: $499
- Sony PlayStation VR: $260
- Google Daydream View: $99
Lastly, to finish our thoughts on growth, this chart from our friends at Grand View Research explains it all. Now is the time for brands to start thinking about their presence in virtual reality and how they want to interact with their customers.
